No-Heat Curls: THE VERDICT.

18 Oct

Yesterday I posted my before photos of the “no-heat curls” that I am trying out today. Here is my verdict.

Overall, I’m super pumped about this look. I love that it’s so easy and gives the curls a natural, messy kind of look. I even like how the hair looks curled up in the headband! However, next time I do it, I’ll keep the strands that I wrap around the headband smaller, especially in the back, to give the curls more definition.

Yay for DIY! I love trying new things out, it makes me feel so accomplished! haha If you try it out, I want to hear what you think of your curls! Here’s the link to the tutorial.

embrace your inner bibliophile

18 Oct

As you know, I’ve been loving up Pinterest a whole bunch lately, and well, rightfully so because I’ve found some pretty badass stuff there. One of my favorite things I’ve discovered so far is this DIY nail art for bibliophiles. I did it a few nights ago and have been loving the outcome! Everyone seems to love it, too- even the teller at my bank wanted to know how I did it. And lucky for you, I’m sharing the secret!

Bibliophile Nail Art Tutorial

Step 1. cut 10 small rectangles of newspaper

Step 2. pour a shot of vodka

Step 3. paint your fingernails like you normally would (base coat + two coats of color). I chose Butter London’s color called Yummy Mummy

Step 4. let nails dry for 10 minutes or so. They should be mostly, if not completely, dry.

Step 5. dip a nail into the shot of vodka for a second or two.

Step 6. remove your finger from the vodka and place one of the rectangles of newspaper onto the vodka soaked nail.

Step 7. hold the newspaper there for 15 seconds, give or take.

Step 8. peel off the newspaper and discard.

Step 9. repeat steps 5 through 8 until all your fingers have been newspapered.

Step 10. apply one or two layers of top coat, based on preference, to each fingernail.

Step 11. be super impressed with yourself!

et voilà!

princess leia without buns.

You may remember my recent references to the awesome virtual pinboard site Pinterest. It’s a really cool way to organize and share the awesome things/beautiful images that you find on the internet. One of my “boards” is called locks to lust for. It’s a collection of hairstyles and haircuts that I like as well as a few DIY hair projects. Well a few days ago I came across an image on Pinterest that caught my eye and so I clicked it and was taken to the site where it was originally posted.

What I found was a retelling of a blogger’s experience with “no-heat curls.” She apparently has super straight hair and yet this method worked really well! She also shared a tutorial video that a video blogger made and put on youtube. SO. I decided to try it myself and I am also passing on the wealth of information that I discovered.

At this point, I am halfway in. My hair is done and waiting for me to go to sleep so the hair fairies can make it perfect by the time I wake up tomorrow morning. Needless to say, I am currently rocking some serious princess leia hair, minus the buns. Or maybe it’s more of a grecian goddess look. Either way, I am loving it and had to share it with all of you. I can’t wait to see what the result is tomorrow morning!

Here is my “before” look:

happy hairtime to all of you
